Discipline gives Reds mighty win

Discipline led to Takuvaine Red’s big win against formerly unbeaten Tupapa Panthers in the Rarotonga Club 15s competition, says their coach Vase Samania.

The Reds ended the Panthers’ winning streak after beating the side 19-13 in The Bond Store match of the week at Victoria Park on Saturday.

The visitors led 9-3 at the break and maintained their momentum to come out victors in the end. Samania said the win was crucial in the team’s campaign for the 2018 season.

The side had a mixed performance, with just a win against Titikaveka Bulls before their triumph over the Panthers.

“We really need that win against a top quality side. We defended well around the ruck but the highlight of the match was our discipline,” Samania said.

The Reds are on a bye this weekend and will use the time to fix the areas in which they are lacking, in an effort to build on their win in the competition.

The Panthers are expected to bounce back against the Cowboys who had a close loss against Avatiu Nikao Eels (14-17) last weekend.

Defending champions Eels will host the Bulls in the other Senior A match this Saturday.
