Keen and eager high schoolers on their school holidays showed up bright and early to the Arorangi Field yesterday to take part in a school holidays rugby training programme which aims to keep tabs on the fitness of the young players while they take a break from the books.
The senior A grade rugby finalists, the Tupapa Panthers and the Arorangi Bears are sticking by the term ‘champions adapt’, as they get ready to battle in today’s domestic rugby union competition final which was postponed last week due to poor weather.
The Avatiu women’s side defeated Arorangi Bears 12-5 in an exciting Cook Islands Rugby Union 7s final at The Swamp last night. Avatiu led 7-0 at the break. Avatiu’s tries were scored by Mahana Sijp and Nichole Tiaore with Sijp kicking a conversion. Rima Browne scored the Bears’ lone try in the second spell.
