Vanic Teina, who started playing golf this year, claimed the tournament after posting an outstanding gross of 86. He plays on a 24 handicap.
After the win, Teina walked away with a voucher for a weekend for two in a beachfront deluxe suite, a Saturday island night for two, plus Sunday lunch for two at the Edgewater Resort and Spa.
The tournament, which had 88 golfers competing, also had Kristopher ‘Gunz’ Williamson claiming the best men’s round of the day on 67 gross, while Greg Amos, also on 67, won the best round prize in the veterans.
The open ladies best round went to Memory Akama on 82.
“The club is always celebrating whenever a new golfer steps up to the podium to claim the best prize of that particular event and in this case Vanic Teina, who is still learning the basics of golf, certainly displayed that he has got what it takes to be a good golfer,” said club president George George.
The club thanked Bob Taylor and his team at the Edgewater Resort for the sponsorship.
Meanwhile, the Polynesian Rental Bike and Hire Tournament will be held today. There are some amazing prizes up for grabs, including a $100 cash prize for any hole in one on all par threes.
Dress code for the day is green and there will be a prize for best dressed female and male.
