Maka departed with his mother on Sunday to compete in the tournament, which is scheduled to finish late next week. He is playing in the 12 and under age group,
Maka and Jesse Toa were named champions of the U12 Pacific Oceania Junior Competition in Fiji back in September, and finished runners-up for the Petits Requins du Pacifique tournament in New Caledonia in the same age grade.
Jesse, along with Moana Une, another budding star who came second in the girls U12 at the POJC, have been invited to join the 2018 Oceania ITF Grand Slam Development Fund Touring Team.
The two will depart on New Year’s Eve for Melbourne to play in the Margret Court 12 and under team and individual events at Albury from January 4 to 10.
From there they move to Wodonga to play in the Victoria Grass Courts Championships, which ends on January 13.
Following that tournament, they will have the opportunity to return to Melbourne to watch the Australian Open before leaving for home on January 17.
