The Aitutaki Sports Association held it’s 2023 Annual General Meeting on March 13 to elect its executive board members.

Potini Regina Potini was elected the president for the two-year 2023-2025 term.

Potini acknowledged the outgoing president Rere Mataiti who is still on the board as the vice president.

“Mataiti has been the president of the association for many years, his guidance and support has been instrumental for the association. We salute you for all that you did for our sporting nation,” said Potini.

The objective of the committee is to ensure that the affairs of the sporting community are well looked after, “especially the athletes who are the heart of what we are about,” Potini said.

Aitutaki’s Sports Association works to assist, encourage and support the sporting codes on the island.

“A dream team makes things easier for the organisation to accomplish the set targets with the team’s unity and understanding,” noted Potini.

“As the saying goes, there is no rest for the wicked. When everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself. Team work makes the dream work.

“Thank you to every one for your valuable contributions to the committee and I look looking forward to working closely with you all.”

Potini has also been re-nominated for the vice presidency role of the Cook Islands Sports & National Olympic Committee (CISNOC). The position is up for grabs when the committee and members will meet this coming Wednesday, March 29 at their Annual General Meeting.

“I understand that there is so much more work to do and I wish to stand again for the election for the vice presidency for CISNOC,” said Potini, who added that if successful, he would be of service to the national federations and island sports associations according to the constitution and strategic plan.
