The opening ceremony of the 2023 Beach Games has been moved to tomorrow at 9am.

Initially it was scheduled to take place this afternoon. Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee’s Jason Lindsay said the beach netball competition which is making its debut will follow after the opening ceremony.

Beach netball is a five-a-side game played on a 10x20 metre sand court with one goal post. There are no playing positions, all members on court can move about in all areas of the court.

“We are all set to go on Saturday and looking forward to the start of this year’s Beach Games … rain, hail or shine beach netball will go ahead, we will be rolling around in the wet sand,” Lindsay said.

Air badminton competition will be held on Monday followed by beach touch on Tuesday and Wednesday. Beach volleyball will be held from Thursday to Saturday.

On Monday and Tuesday, January 16 and 17, the beach handball competition will be held followed by 3x3 basketball from January 17 to 19. Beach football will kick start on January 19 and run until January 21.

Registrations are still open for volleyball, beach football and 3x3 basketball and will close on Monday, January 9. Contact CISNOC at 24095 for more information.
