Aitutaki is already on the go in preparing for the anticipated Cook Islands Games that will run for two weeks this coming October.

Training sessions for Touch rugby, Rugby League 9s and Rugby 7s for males and females are held at the Amuri field on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5.30pm.

Organiser of the training programme Tyson Oaariki is pleased with the interest shown and the numbers showing up to train.

He said: “We have been training for over a month and bit, and we are striving to get our youth involved in the particular sports codes we are targeting.”

Oaariki’s motivation is to assist and develop their youth, get fitter codes and to have them on the same level as their senior players before selection time.

For Teariki (TK) Tautateopu Teariki he loves keeping fit, regularly attends training and strives at being the best he can be in sport.

“I’d like to set a good example in sport for the younger ones, he says.

“If we can encourage others by demonstrating our confidence in them, as time progresses, it should become natural for all our team members to recognize one another’s contribution to the sports,” said Teariki.

Natasha Sheck is another sports fan who participates in the Amuri sports meetings and is keen to build relationships with other peers through sports.

“I firmly believe in training and that it shows good results within a team, and is good fitness for all, through these training exercises others can build up their courage to join in.

“It’s good to share knowledge when it's needed and exercise builds healthy bonds within a community,” said Sheck.

The Aitutaki athletes are looking forward to the Cook Islands Games and continue their commitment to the exercise routines.
