The women’s teams kicked off another hot afternoon of the Bluesky Open men’s and women’s touch competition at Nikao Field on Monday.

In the opening match, competition leader FBI took on a much improved Niks.

From the kick off, FBI settled in quickly to try and bag quick points against a short Niks team.

As soon as the Niks players arrived to make up a full team, they clawed back into the game with Nana Manuela running the length of the field to score Niks first try from an offside FBI defence.

FBI had many scoring opportunities in the first half but were unable to find the target.

Early in the second half, Niks scored their third try to bring the score to 3-all. However, for the rest of the half they had to defend the strong attacking plays from the FBI’s Pacific Games trialists of Rima Browne, Kura and Rima Moekaa.  FBI scored two more tries to win 5-3.

The second women’s game between NukzPower and Bounty Hunters followed in a similar fashion with Bounty Hunters starting the game with five players.   After a few great dummy half breaks from Shar Atai, NukzPower managed two diving tries from Julz Westrupp.

Bounty Hunters however stayed in the game with great skills from Pare Noovao and Mele Poaru and try of the day from Monica Wichman.  Nukz won 5-4.

In the Bluesky men’s competition, Germinators started with just six players against a determined Team ATT, who had a full complement of players from youth to experience.

Germinators, led by Andy Kapi and Vou Williams managed to set up two quick tries against a tiring ATT line up.

Team ATT came back to draw at half time 2-2.

The second half saw Andy Kapi with a double and Delano and Johnis Atai combined to score more tries to extend Germinators lead to six.

ATT scored one more try before the final hooter as Germinators walked away with a 6-3 win.

The second men’s game was between the speedy GAT and the improving Kuki Squad ladies. The speed of the GAT team dictated the attack and forced the ladies to defend through the middle before moving the ball out to the wingers.  GAT won 10-2.

In the final game of the night, Kuki Squad ladies defeated Nines Squad 9-2. The Nines Squad opted to play an expansive game and tested the ladies fitness level.           - CI Touch
