FBI stays ahead in women’s Touch

Kicking off another excellent Monday afternoon of the Bluesky Men’s and Women’s competition at Nikao Field was the first women’s game between competition leader FBI and Bounty Hunters.

Guest player and former rep Mainz was the playmaker for FBI and setting up young Heretini for two outstanding tries in the corner and creating headaches for the Bounty defence.

Both teams played at a fast paced and a tiring FBI allowed Bounty Hunters to score two late touch downs to bring the final score to 8-2.

In the second exciting women’s game, the Niks got up early on the scoreboard leading three tries to nil before the mighty Nukz Power started to find their rhythm.

The second half saw a hungry Nukz Power clawing its way back into the game with national reps Julz Westrupp and Alex Marsters leading the way for Nukz Power but the determined NIKS hanged on and managed to score to keep them ahead.

Niks was able to utilise their unmarked winger young Erena Tangata to score twice in the corner winning 5-4.

As expected, the Bluesky men’s competition game between GAT and 007 was a tense nail biter.

Team GAT short on numbers ran on with only five players and seeing the opportunity, 007 took advantage of the numbers and scored straight away to lead 1-0.

Extra GAT players then arrived to put some touch downs on the board and to level the match 3-all. It was tit for tat all the way through the rest of the game.

However 007 with the advantage of an early touch down ran away with the game on the final hooter to score on an overlap and win 8-7. GAT had opportunities but missed them.

GAT played its second game against the young Team ATT.

The young boys in Team ATT worked hard but GAT was just too strong and experienced winning 10-5. The Peraua boys and Atera Tomokino continue to impress for Team ATT.

Meanwhile the Cook Islands Touch Association is drawing its raffle at the end of March and is asking all raffle ticket holders to bring in their money and tickets in preparation for the draw.

The mixed touch competition will be held today.
