Defending women’s champions Nukz Power remain a force to reckon with in the Bluesky Touch Open competition after round three games on Monday at Nikao Field.

The side led by former national skipper Julz Westrupp has dominated the weekly competition from the start.

On Monday, Nukz Power took on a new look and younger Bounty Hunters in an exciting tussle.

“Both sides had a national rep playing general, guiding their up and coming younger stars around the field,” Cook Islands Touch president Daphne Brown said.

“While Bounty Hunters were strong on defence they were also missing the experience of Lora Tauira.”

The Nukz Power put on the speed to get the ball moving all over the field breaking down the Bounty Hunters defence to win comfortably 6-2.

In the other women’s match, Nikz pulled off a major upset, outplaying a much fancied FBI.

From kick off, the Nikz settled into the game quickly and took advantage of an unorganised FBI defence to score two quick touch downs.

This rattled the FBI further as the Nikz continued their good play with Moari Allsworth leading the team all the way.

In the second spell, FBI managed to claw its way back into the game but ran out of time to salvage any match points from the clash.

The Nikz maintained its dominance with excellent play and defence putting the game out of FBI’s reach, winning 4-1.

In the men’s division, newcomers GAT team continued its winning streak to lead the competition.

“A complete GAT team took on a rather short Availables team who gallantly hung in the game for a good 15 minutes before the rest of its team members arrived,” Brown said.

“However, GAT was just too strong for them winning comfortably 7-2.”

In the other men’s match, Team 4 versus Germinators proved an even battle with both sides boosting equal number of experienced touch players.

“It was a game of who settles down first and finding the gaps,” Brown said.

The Germinators got points on the board through the clever footwork of Samu stealing a couple of runaway touch downs.

“Team 4 tightened their defence to keep Germinators out while relying on good settles, plant and scopes finishing with long balls to get on top of last year’s champs Germinators running out victors 4 touch downs to 2.”

The round three Bluesky Mixed Touch competition will be held today.
