Te Tupu paddlers win top 12km single races

Tough and exciting competitions were seen in the singles races on day two of the Matson Vaka Eiva on Monday.

 

The 12 kilometre races were held in the masters, senior masters, golden masters, U19 and open categories.

In the feature open women’s V1 race, veteran paddler Serena Hunter of Te Tupu finished on top in a time of 1 hour 2:05 minutes ahead Joyce Fortes (Ngakau Toa Vaka) and Becs Rasmussen (Te Tupu).

Fortes clocked 1 hour 8:39 minutes ahead of Rasmussen, who managed 1 hr 9:13 mins.

The open men’s V1 race went to Andre Tutaka-George of Te Tupu. He won on a time of 50:45 minutes.

Josh Walters of Whakatu Marae finished on second place with a time of 53:56 minutes followed by Jamille Ruka of Te Puuao in third in a time of 54:41 minutes.
