Panthers remain unbeaten

Tupapa Panthers maintain their unbeaten run in the men’s premier basketball competition after another splendid show last week.


The side defeated JTK Venturers 31-21 to remain the top favourites for the title.

Tupapa Panthers were guided well by top scorers Trey Williams and Te Manava Syme-Buchanan, who scored 12 points each in the crucial win.

In the other men’s matches played last week at Bluesy Sports Arena, title contenders Drifters thumped Avalicious Men 59-16 in a one-sided affair.

Brendon Heath top scored for the Drifters with 21 points, followed by Ben Vakatini (17) and Anthony Ikimotu (16).

Just Do It escaped with a 25-23 win over Wigmore’s Superstore in a close tussle.

At half time, Just Do It led by slender two points and weathered a strong comeback from Wigmore’s Superstore to claim victory.

In another close encounter, Charlie Katu scored 14 points in Hot Dogz’ 27-24 win over RTM Mighty Lions while Filipino team, Panama CPR defeated Survivors 39-33.

Hector Mercado, who managed 14 points, was the top scorer for Survivors while Elan Samas scored 10 points for Panama CPR.

In the women’s match, Teumere Heather (14 points) and Malisa Mataio (12) starred in Sunrise Flyers 50-34 win over Avalicious women.

Annie Tearetoa top scored for Avalicious women’s team with 14 points.

The competition will continue at the BSA this evening.
