Cricket names year’s top players

COOK ISLANDS Cricket Association has recognised the top batsmen, batswomen and bowlers from the men’s and women’s grades from its domestic league competition for the first time.

THE DOMESTIC cricket season in Mangaia kicked off with much fanfare a fortnight ago.

The opening round of the competition, which was attended by the Cook Islands Cricket Association chief executive officer Davis Teinaki, was buzzing with excitement especially among the children who were eager to try out the sport.

Teinaki said the organisers have included an Under-13 mixed grade in their competition to develop cricket on the island.

Champions Muri and Turangi retain titles

DEFENDING champions Turangi and Muri are set for an intense battle in the final of the Cook Islands Cricket domestic league competition today at Victoria Park in Tupapa.

Rain washed out the final two sessions on the opening day of the second and final cricket test between the Black Caps and Pakistan in Hamilton yesterday.
