THE COUNTRY side for the second Vaka of Origin cricket series that gets underway next week had its opening trials on Saturday last week at Turangi Field.

The trials were to give the men’s and women’s coaches an idea of the level of players in their squad before the final selection later this week.

Country, which lost to Town in the inaugural series last year, is keen to claim the second one which will be played over three legs.

The opening leg of the series will be held on January 21 followed by the remaining two, a week after each other.

The revised format will also include women’s competition, which will be played in Twenty20 format.

The Vaka of Origin series started last year in a bid to rejuvenate cricket in the Cook Islands.
