Letters: Taxing junk food

Friday September 20, 2019 Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear editor,

Let's do the opposite. Reward people, organisations, businesses who promote health, wellness and wellbeing.

Introduce healthy food choices in schools, hospitals and government-owned enterprises.

For example, why is alcohol cheaper to buy than a bottle of water? My son Dexstar couldn't get over that when he lived there.

I don't have a solution right now but it would start with instilling healthy habits and valuing healthy eating as a nation.

The way our forefathers lived – it's not rocket science.

I know growing up from a baby in Atiu everything I ate was from the earth or sea.

Luckily my mother was a food nazi adopting Seventh Day Adventist vegetarian values so I lived the first 20 years of my life that way.

Come on Kukis, we know how we should eat, exercise and have a lot more self-control. As in ... Stop Eating Too Much!

BTW, now Papaas are trying to educate us on proper nutrition. Funny that looks exactly like how our grandparents ate, with some treats. We've come full circle.
