Virtues not needed

Tuesday August 29, 2017 Published in Letters to the Editor

I am a regular visitor to these lovely islands, and I read in Thursday’s paper that a New Zealand “expert” has been here teaching the Virtues programme to local people.

The Bible tells us that the greatest virtues are faith, hope and love. In my long experience of the local people I have never found any of them deficient those qualities. In fact they are a natural part of the culture, a spontaneous expression of the local generosity of spirit. These people do not need tutoring in Virtues by an outsider.

I am sad and offended on their behalf that anyone should think they do.
