Foreign Minister Murray McCully has named diplomat Nick Hurley as New Zealand’s new High Commissioner to the Cook Islands.

Hurley has extensive experience in the Pacific, most recently as High Commissioner in Samoa and, before that, in Solomon Islands. He has also held previous posts in Australia, France, Fiji, Italy and the Cook Islands.

Aimee Jephson has been acting New Zealand High Commissioner to the Cook Islands since Joanna Kempkers three-year posting finished at the end of last year.

Kempkers is now the chief of protocol in the protocol division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Wellington, New Zealand.

Before going to print CINews was unable to get a response from the New Zealand High Commission to the Cook Islands as to when Hurley’s posting would start.
