New building good news for Aitutaki

The people of Aitutaki are the grateful recipients of the newly-completed Te Kainga Wellbeing Extension Centre building, donated by the people of Japan.

 

Embassy of Japan minister Kazuhiko Nakai and a small delegation were present for the handover of the centre in Popoara, Amuri.

The assistance of Japan in the project was acknowledged in an address by Aitutaki mayor Tekura Bishop and the island’s, chief executive Tuaine George. The project first began back in 2015.

The formal speeches concluded with Te Kainga O Pa Taunga Trust founder Mereana Taikoko expressed her appreciation to not only to the people of Japan, but to those who had supported the trust’s mental health programme over the years.

She said the trust had seen the realisation of a dream, finally aving a building and base for Te Kainga’s wellbeing services on Aitutaki.
