The island’s children are in for a treat this afternoon with the annual Tropical Christmas Float parade scheduled to take place today at 4pm.

The float procession departs from the Punanga Nui Market and will travel through town on the right hand side (shop side) of the Te Maire Nui Drive and end at the roundabout.

There is a good line up of floats this year and the parade will be led by the Tropical Christmas banner, followed by Miss Cook Islands, Minions characters and the Puaikura fire engine. The spectacle will also include the Miss Cook Islands runners-up, more cartoon characters including Disney’s Mickey and Minnie, Vaitoti drummers, Super Heroes, the Island Craft float, the Health truck, the BCI float, drummers, the CITC Christmas elves float, the EXCIL and BSP floats, the Rehab truck, Kuki Kids, Ninja Turtles, the SPCA and Are Manu float and the CITC Santa float.

When the float parade ends, children will have the opportunity to have photos taken with Santa or their favourite cartoon character in the CITC Avarua car park.

Motorists should note that the road will be closed before the parade and traffic will be detoured towards the back roads.

“Drive slowly and mind our kids,” a parade spokesperson said.
