It was a night of colour, music, dance, glitz and glam when the Miss Cook Islands Association held its second event for this year at the Islander Hotel on Thursday, attended by a packed house of family, friends and supporters of the Miss Cook Islands 2018 contestants.

The seven competing beauties opened the show with a spectacular dance performance choreographed by the talented Emmy Koteka-Wiki.

Performing in sequin dresses and dancing to a Brazilian samba, they attracted huge roars of support and applause. Later, all seven contestants had the opportunity to address an eager audience who were keen to hear more about their personal stories.

The show proceeded with a variety of creative shoulder pieces featuring bursts of colour, with elements and styles designed by local talent.

The finale of the evening was the presentation of fantasy head pieces created by Rarotonga’s artistic costume designers, creating an air of glitz and glam reminiscent of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnivale Sambadrome.

All in all, it was a great night of entertainment and the Miss Cook Islands Association would like to acknowledge the tremendous support received from principal sponsors Bluesky, Motor Centre, CITC, Pacific Resort and The Islander.

The seven contestants are now well into their intensive training programme, which started with a weekend escape at the breathtaking Iro Luxury Retreat, kindly sponsored by Tina and Kevin Iro.

There they took part in workshops designed to help improve each contestant’s personal confidence, including training and advice on grooming, beauty therapy, hair and makeup, deportment, etiquette, nutrition, social media, public speaking skills and more.

The next public event for Miss Cook Islands 2018 will be ‘Project Runway: Tropicana’ on Thursday, August 30, at the Islander Hotel.

The event will feature the latest fashion creations from leading fashion houses of the Pacific Islands, including labels Heihere, Inangaro, Tauariki Wear, Peter Henry, Lula Soul, Hinerava, Pacific Island Art, Te Ara Nui Gallery, Moana Gems and Pacific Weave.

Tickets go on sale from Wednesday, August 22, and can be purchased from the Islander Hotel for $15 seat only or $55 dinner and show tickets.

Seats are limited and supporters are urged to purchase tickets early to avoid disappointment.
