The story in CINews on Tuesday about a dog called Rocket who was urgently in need of a home, has had a happy ending.

The dog, named for his abundant energy and running speed, now has a new owner and is guaranteed plenty of love. Sheryl John, who with her husband Huw has been looking after Rocket since he turned up at their home several weeks ago, says that on Tuesday morning she had three calls from CINews readers willing to take Rocket in.

“But it was ‘first in first served’, so he went by 8am. There were four other calls later on.”

The kind new owner is someone who was identified simply as “Mona” who told Sheryl: “Yes, she’s got a good home. I actually got this puppy for my son Shaniqua because someone rode their car over his one, and the vet couldn’t save her, so I had to put her to sleep. My son was devastated. I hope (the arrival of Rocket) will ease his pain.”

The seven-month old dog turned up at Sheryl and Huw John’s place a couple of weeks ago, skinny and neglected. The couple, who already have animals, had him de-sexed and gave him a flea treatment, then treated him to a new collar and a claw manicure. A happy Rocket is now enjoying his new life – and Shaniqua has a loving new playmate.
