The project is valued at over $70,000. The next phase of the Stage 1 works is carrying out the physical works and connecting all domestic and commercial properties to the new Stage 1 ring mains.
The material procurement was done in two parts. The first part was awarded to PTS Plumbing Shop in January 2016 valued at over $250,000. This contract award is the final procurement of materials for the Stage 1 contract works, and will ensure that all of the existing connections from the existing ring main along the inner part of the area are supplied with water from the new Stage 1 ring main.
This involves connecting the existing sub mains to the new ring mains via a number of cross-connections.
Once this is complete, the new pipe network will deliver water to properties and the old ring main will be decommissioned.
The Te Mato Vai Project Management Unit is managing the tender process for the physical works connecting all domestic and commercial properties to the Stage 1 ring mains. The contract is expected to be awarded at the end of September with works likely to start in October/November 2017, using materials supplied by PTS and CITC supply.
The Stage 2 design and construction contract for upgrades to the 10 intakes and water treatment facilities was awarded to McConnell Dowell in August and will be recognised in a contract signing ceremony with Secretary of Finance Garth Henderson. - MW
