For Tiare Kauvai, 2019 deputy head girl at Tereora College, bullying in any way, shape or form is never OK.

She is so passionate about spreading the message about anti-bullying, that she along with the student welfare group championed the ‘Every Child Matters’ campaign at the college last year to address and raise awareness about the issue.

Initially, it was to be an annual event, observed on the first Friday of September.

But this year, there was a week of activities at Tereora College including a logo competition, a TikTok and song challenge and an “orange your room” day.

On Friday, the whole school posed for a photo with most students wearing orange t-shirts.

Student leaders acknowledged the day and a sausage sizzle and drinks were provided during both school breaks.

The activities were organised by Level 3 Business class students.

Principal Tania Morgan said the campaign to address bullying involved a student driven rather than a top down approach.

“The messaging around bullying is a big one and is something that should be embraced 365 days of the year,” she said.
