Last week Apii Nikao year seven and eight students played host to a group of Auckland University students who hailed from all around the world including America, Italy, Hungary and England.

The visitors introduced themselves saying they were all studying in different fields and visiting Auckland University for just one semester. Their visit was part of that study period.

Nikao students then invited them to divide into groups, where they interacted with the students learning different cultural activities.

“They did things that they would never normally be able to do, things like making ei, beating the drums and husking coconut,” says year seven and eight teacher Annie Iona.

“Our kids got a lot out of it, there was constant communication between both groups.”

She believes the university students stayed in Rarotonga for about ten days before returning to Auckland.
