To start off their Friday morning, Apii Te Uki Ou students held a special assembly with two very special guests.

BCI Opera in Rarotonga stars William (Taka) Mataka Vuni and Ipu Laga’aia performed in front of a packed house with teachers, students and even parents enjoying some music ahead of the final day of the school week.

It was the second school visit for the pair since they landed in Rarotonga - they also visited Tereora College on Thursday morning.

The singers talked to the school about their introductions to music, both citing their Christian up-bringing as one of the main factors behind pursuing a career on stage.

Taka and Ipu performed four songs for the school. And a big hit, particularly among the teachers and parents was the old classic Ten Guitars by Engelbert Humperdink.

To end the assembly, the pair gave a rendition of O Sole Mio. This included some island dance moves which got a rousing response from the students.

Last night was the opening night of the BCI Opera in Rarotonga, with the final performance tonight at the Islander Hotel.
