Covid-19 is our ‘common enemy’, says Ambassador.

China is sending medical supplies to help Cook Islands battle the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking from New Zealand, Chinese Ambassador Wu Xi said the medical supplies had left China and would arrive here soon.

They will include protective face masks, infrared thermometers, medical disposable protective clothing, goggles, gloves, and more.

Wu said Chinese medical experts held video conferences with their Pacific counterparts, including the Cook Islands, sharing details of China’s experience in containing, diagnosing and treating the pandemic. They also exchanged views with them on issues of their concern.

China had also allocated funds for the Cook Islands and the rest of the Pacific island countries to assist them in purchasing further medical equipment.

“The two countries are in close touch for further assistance in medical supplies,” she said. “There is a lot of tangible cooperation.”

Wu had been in regular contact with Cook Islands High Commissioner to New Zealand, Elizabeth Wright-Koteka. They were working with each other to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 to the Cook Islands.

The Covid-19 outbreak started in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, in December 2019 but Wu said scientist are still investigating the origin of the virus.

She said rigorous measures including the lockdown of Wuhan and getting medical and other assistance to the province from the rest of China helped them contain the virus.

Ambassador Wu said there were zero new confirmed cases in China for more than two weeks.

She said the challenge now was to map out effective ways to stop Covid-19 cases from being imported to China.

“Coronavirus is a common enemy of the mankind. We need to stay united to fight the virus, rather than criticising, we need to support each other in this very difficult times.”

Please, do not accept China made products. Australia has found these faulty equipments.
Australia and New Zealand are your protecting neighbours.
Importantly, Covid-19 is reported in Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti and surrounding South Pacific Islands.
Listen to the voices of the people of the Cook Islands.

With all that is happening in the world today it would be tragic indeed to ignore the voices of the people and social media in regards to China's affect on the world, let alone it's effect on us now and our future... I hope that our government will put our peoples wishes and council first before any political gain or relationship with China. AND PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR PEOPLE!... WE DON'T WANT!... WE DON'T NEED!... CHINA'S 'DEADLY'... GRIP ON OUR BEAUTIFUL AND PRECIOUS COUNTRY, LANDS, FREEDOM AND PEOPLE... SAY NO!!!!
