The first to appear on our horizon is the elegant MS Amsterdam, arrive tomorrow.
She carries 1,380 passengers, of whom 320 have booked island tours. Launched in 2000, the 64,000 tonne liner carries the flag of the Netherlands and has a crew of 647.
Then on December 13, a record 920 Chinese travellers sailing on the Costa Atlantica have confirmed bookings for tours on the island, says Turama Pacific Travel’s Nina Webb. More visitors are expected to disembark and sightsee of their own accord.
Constructed in 2000, the 87,000-tonne Costa Atlantica can board up to 2652 passengers, and has a crew of 902.
Six days later, just a week out from Christmas, the 1,300-passenger cruise ship AIDAaura arrives in Rarotonga – the last of these giants ships to our shores for 2019. AIDA also has a crew of 418.
As weather conditions can be uncertain, disembarking will not be confirmed until the morning of arrival and is totally dependent on the assessments by the Captain.
All cruise ships are expected to arrive at 7am, and depart at about 5pm the same day.
