That whatever we touch, do, plan, or say presents another challenge. Sometimes this is true both in our personal and professional responsibilities. What do you do on such a day?
“Look for the blessings.”
When to look for the blessings
When we are facing challenges we must look for blessings, for if we don’t, those challenges will overtake us. In fact, we should focus on blessings at all times. Blessings come from God who knows our needs, capabilities, and future.
Look for blessings when the situation seems hopeless, such as what the Israelites experienced when they were slaves in Egypt. In the midst of their hopelessness, they celebrated the Passover. The Passover was more than a ritual; it was God’s way of blessing them in the midst of a crisis.
We are in the third month of 2017 and perhaps we are tempted to dwell on all the reasons that exist to be discouraged: “Nothing seems to be working for me….”
Focusing on the blessings, being optimistic, and showing strong determination and vision will provide hope for our lives, professions and family.
Where to look for the blessings
Where do we find these blessings? For those who go to church, although we do not always see it, one of the sources includes the churches we attend. There are members in our congregation who go out of their way to bring us blessings. I remember a much older man who went out of his way to always speak a word of encouragement. Perhaps his many years of living close to the Lord brought assurance to his own life, and he wanted to share God’s blessings with me. I look forward to hearing his words of encouragement.
There are also people in our community who brings blessings to us. I have a friend who hardly goes to church but quite often encourages me. He affirms and supports my ministry in the community. I cherish his friendship and words of encouragement.
Often-neglected sources of blessings in our lives are our families and friends. Perhaps we just expect them to speak words of encouragement and fail to pause long enough to realise that they are a source of blessing to us. Listen to their words as they speak to you because they are closest to you and know your journey.
“Look for the blessings”, someone says to me. Sometimes they are hard to find. I am one of those guys who often goes to the store to find a certain item. I walk up and down the aisles looking for it, but I just can’t find it. At times I have stood at the very area where the product should be and actually is, but I still don’t see it. I’m tempted to look somewhere else even though I know I’m standing where the product should be. If I stay where I belong, I will find the product. If I look to God for the blessings in my life, I will find them.
Jeremiah29:11-14 says: “I say this because I know the plans that I have for you.” This message is from the Lord. “I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future. 12: Then you will call my name. You will come to me and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13: You will search for me, and when you search for me with all your heart, you will find me. 14: I will let you find me.” This message is from the Lord.”
What a message for us. God will make it His business for Him to hear us and for us to find Him. Look for the blessings, and you will find them.
