The CITC Prince of Wales Athletics Championship got underway yesterday afternoon with long distance track events and some field events at the National Stadium in Nikao.

The largest school athletics event of the year which begins proper this morning will feature 11 schools, over 600 competitors and 100 volunteers.

Athletes took part in the 800 and 1500-metre running events as well as discus and high jump competitions yesterday.

The main day is today which will start at 7.15am with breakfast from CITC. At 8.30am each school will march around the stadium as part of the parade ceremony and at 9am the competition will start.

Apii Avarua is the defending champions of the annual Prince of Wales championship.
