Defending champions Country are off a good start in the annual Conan’s Cup women’s rugby league series.
The side made up of top players from the victorious Lady Bears and Lady Bulldogs teams defeated Town 24-20 in a closely contested battle at Victoria Park in Tupapa this afternoon.
Despite the loss, Town made up of players from Lady Panthers and Lady Eels walked away with the player of the match trophy to Jamie Gotty.
The second match of the series will be held next Saturday at Nukupure Park in Ngatangiia.
