Triathlon gears up for ‘exciting’ event

The Cook Islands Triathlon Association is excited about the Uncle Tom’s & PTS Adventure Triathlon event this Saturday.

Triathlon president Roland Neururer said: “What will be a hugely fun and exciting afternoon, more dramatic this week because of the heavy rainfall which will have made the mountain bike trail very boggy. Spectators will be able to take some fantastic muddy shots of all our competitors!”

The event is an adventure race which breaks away from the usual triathlon disciplines, and sees the athletes battling a 1.2 kilometre Stand Up Paddle Board Course, a 18km Mountain Bike Ride which crosses some of our inland areas, the bush and the water intakes, also there is a break in the mountain bike ride, and competitors need to run a 1.8km hill section and then a 2km road run to finish.

“Grateful thanks is given to Uncle Toms BBQ & PTS as the main sponsor and The Bond Store for their generous sponsorship of prizes, Ariki Adventures, to supply the Sup boards and to the Raina Family for graciously allowing CITAI the use of the area behind Enua Manea Hall to host the event.”

Entry fee is just $10 per person and registrations are welcome from all men and women over 16 years, either as an individual or a team. All competitors are to enter by email to jennieinraro@gmail.com by 4pm on Friday, August 4.
