Air New Zealand flight from Rarotonga to Auckland was cancelled this morning.

The afternoon flight has also been cancelled.

This is due to the heavy rain causing extreme flooding in Auckland including the international airport. A state of emergency was declared last night.

The Auckland flooding is affecting international and domestic flights arriving into Auckland.

Meanwhile, yesterday afternoon's flight from Rarotonga to Auckland was diverted to Wellington and passengers had to hire vans for a nine hour drive to Auckland.

According to a statement from Auckland Airport, roads at Auckland Airport continue to be impacted by widespread flooding, along with the check in and arrivals areas of the international terminal.

“Due to the damage, no domestic or international flights will be arriving or departing from Auckland Airport before noon Saturday, 28 January.”

The public is encouraged to get in touch with their airline or check the airline travel app for the latest information about your flight.

“Our team is working around the clock to get the airport up and operating again as soon as possible.”
