On arrival, Australia's Head of State was received by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration (MFAI) staff, Cook Islands Head of State, the King's Representative Sir Tom Marsters and Lady Tuaine Marsters, and Tereora College student Lily Hereora at Rarotonga International Airport.

The first port of call for Governor General Hurley soon after arrival, was Avatiu where his party was hosted to a visit to Police Patrol Boat, Te Kukupa II.  The Governor General is accompanied by his wife, the Honourable Linda Hurley.  A traditional turou and Guard of Honour preceeded a briefing and tour of the boat, led by Maritime Commander Inspector Tepaki Baxter.

Governor General Hurley also made a visit to Cook Islands Parliament, and then had a brief conversation with Cook Islands Prime Minister Mark Brown at the Prime Minister’s Office.
