Police are changing the rules for those who issue a warrant of fitness in a “streamlining move for efficiency”.

“Plus it’s easier to administer with everyone renewing at the same time,” Police spokesman Trevor Pitt said.

Pitt confirmed there would be no change in fees as service wants to synchronise the approval date of all permits for the issuing of warrants of fitness by July 1.

“That means all automotive services (garages) and designated mechanics, who issue WOFs, should start applying for their respective permits now so that the new approval period can kick off without delays on 1 July, this year,” Pitt said.

All garages and mechanics will need to be approved to commence on July 1, including current mechanic permit holders.

Pitt said the Police Service Regulatory Office would be adjusting those paid permits, accordingly.

Automotive services are approved to issue WOFs for a period of two years, while mechanics are approved for one year.

The permits are not transferable from one location to another, and all facilities must meet the required standards for the issuance of WOFs.
