Three spend Easter weekend in jail

Three people spent the long Easter weekend in lock-up, Police said in a statement.

The three will face charges of contempt, drunk-driving, and assault on a female, respectively, after being arrested by Police during the weekend.

The incidents began on Good Friday with a dangerous driver being reported for stunting on the back road of Matavera. Later that night, Police picked up a 12-year-old motorcyclist on the backroad of Takuvaine, at 10.40pm.  Four drivers received fines on Friday.

Also late Friday, a 49-year-old man was arrested after Police attended to a domestic incident. He was remanded and will face a charge of assault on a female.

Poor attitudes on the road continued during the weekend with a driver being reported for speeding dangerously through town on Saturday morning. And early Sunday morning, Police stopped a motorcyclist at Kiikii for a safety helmet infringement but the male driver sped off to the backroad.  He was caught at KAPs store in Matavera and subsequently tested for alcohol. The 26-year-old was remanded for failing the breathalyser with a reading of 620mcg/L.

During the weekend, Police also remanded a man for contempt of his court orders, and responded to complaints of excessive noise, and a stolen motorbike, at Tupapa.
