Court briefs - October 9

Taana Metua John was convicted and fined for excess breath alcohol and careless driving on Thursday last week.

The court heard a crash involving two vehicles was reported on September 3.

John had been riding a motorcycle and collided with another vehicle.

A subsequent blood test showed 180 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood.

John told Police he had been drinking at home with family before he crashed into a car from behind.

He was taken to hospital with injuries to his knees and chin.

There was no reparation request for the car.

He was fined $335 and ordered to pay $50 court costs for excess breath alcohol, and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was ordered to pay $150 towards the blood test, fined $50 for careless driving and ordered to pay $50 court costs.

Christian Hiro Tati was convicted of excess breath alcohol and careless driving following a crash in the early hours of Thursday, October 5.

The court heard a crash was reported about 1am.

Tati was riding a motorcycle when he lost control.

A subsequent breath test showed 500 micrograms per litre of breath.

He admitted consuming alcohol.

He was fined $200 plus $50 court costs for excess breath alcohol, and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was fined $50 plus $50 court costs for careless driving.

Tearataia Temaru Teiti was convicted and fined for excess breath alcohol and careless driving.

Police said he had been asked at his last court appearance on September 7 to seek legal advice.

Teiti said he would enter guilty pleas.

The court heard on September 2 in Arorangi, a crash was reported at Black Rock.

Teiti admitted to drinking four glasses of bourbon before losing control of a vehicle and veering off the road.

A breath test reading showed 981 micrograms per litre of breath.

He was fined $335 plus $50 court costs for excess breath alcohol, and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Teiti was fined $50 for careless driving and ordered to pay $50 court costs.
