A man who was over five times the breath alcohol limit has been disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Manny Taingarua appeared before Justice of the Peace Vania Kenning at the Criminal Court in Avarua on Thursday.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with excess breath alcohol.

According to the summary of facts, read out in Court, Taingarua was stopped by police in Tupapa on April 27, 2023, after he was spotted swerving side to side.

He was breath tested and blew a reading of 1130mcg of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit is 250mcg.

He admitted to police he had consumed a pack of Woodstock Bourbon before going out to pick up his partner.

JP Kenning noted Taingarua’s early guilty plea, but also acknowledged he had previous driving charges.

She disqualified him from driving for 12 months, and fined him $500 and ordered him to pay $50 in Court costs.

A man who was nearly three times the breath-alcohol limit has also been disqualified from driving.

Keanau William Ronald Harawira appeared before Justice of the Peace Vania Kenning in the Criminal Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to driving with excess breath alcohol.

He was spotted driving erratically near the Motor Centre in Panama on April 28, 2023.

He was breath-tested and blew 722mcg.

JP Kenning acknowledged the early guilty plea and the fact it was his first offence. She disqualified him from driving for 12 months, fined him $300 and ordered him to pay $50 in Court costs.
