Burglary matter adjourned for defence to prepare submissions

A man charged with burglary sits on a “razor’s edge” of supervision or prison.

Ngatupuna Teinakitama appeared in the Criminal Court on Wednesday charged with burglary where the court heard from his defence lawyer Michelle Tangimama that she was not comfortable with proceeding with sentencing.

She had just received the probation report and was awaiting the defendant’s criminal history.

Tangimama needed time to look at the probation report.

Justice of the Peace John Whitta said he would adjourn the matter on the grounds her client was on a “razor’s edge of supervision or prison”.

It was relevant that the defendant’s entire criminal history was made available as he needed the “best defence you can give him”, JP Whitta said to Tangimama.

The matter was adjourned to August 16.
