Mixed Touch competition heads into semis

Last Wednesday’s overcast conditions were a welcome change from the usual heat and were much enjoyed by touch fans at the last round games of the Bluesky Mixed Touch competition.

Kicking off the afternoon, competition leaders ICI Transformers took on the mighty NukzPower who eyed a win to secure their placing in the top four of the competition.

Both teams threw everything at each other on attack and defence, relying on their speedy boys to find the holes to glide over the try line.

But it was ICI who had better control of the ball and despite a brave effort from the mighty Nukz, they won 6-3.

It was wins by default for Team ATT and Foodland.

The final games of the afternoon saw an exciting battle between a pumped-up Mangaia and Team Transport.

Mangaia came out firing to post the first points on the board.

Both teams worked hard on attack and defence, but it was Mangaia’s set plays close to the five metres and brilliant saves from Annie Kauvarivai that kept the Team Transport speedsters at bay.

Mangaia eventually ran out victors with five touchdowns to Transport’s three.

Meanwhile on field two, the Andy Kapi led Team 007 turned on a classy performance of set play and speed to overcome an enthusiastic Live Smart 6-2. Outstanding for 007 was youngster Maeva Robati, looking very sharp for the semifinal and final.

The Bluesky Mixed Competition heads into the semifinals on Wednesday with the top four teams playing off for the Cup division. Teams placed on 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th places will play in the Plate division and the bottom two playing the Bowl final.

Meanwhile the Bluesky Men’s and Women’s Touch finals will be held today at Nikao Field.
