1 August: Ina Marsters (pictured) is the competition manager for the Pacific Mini Games 2009 athletics programme. She is also the president for the Athletics Cook Islands and holds a vice president position in the Cook Islands Sports & National Olympic Committee.
Ina’s involvement in athletics began in 1995 when she started coaching school children in the throwing area. And today, she is still keenly involved in the sport.
In athletics we are looking at around 35 athletes taking part in the games, with 15 currently in training on the track and 15 in the field events.
Out of stadium (road race events 10km, half marathon and also the 20km walk) we are looking at another five athletes for these events.
We have upcoming javelin star, Daniel Tutai, who has just come back from a World Youth Championship in Italy where he was placed eighth.
Discus thrower Tereapii Tapoki has a number two ranking in Oceania.
The team members in Aitutaki are being coached by Teaea Parima and Pi David.
The coaches in Rarotonga are Harmon Pou, Ake Hosea, John Teiti, Mr Dong, Mr Lee, and Ms Chow (Tiare).
