Avatiu Nikao Eels have made their title intentions clear with a big win in round three of the Cook Islands Rugby League 13s competition over the weekend.

The Clive Nicholas-coached Eels thumped Ngatangiia Matavera Sea Eagles 64-0 at Nukupure Park on Saturday.

In an absolute masterclass performance, the Eels displayed pace, aggression and fitness as they led 24-0 at the break.

The side defeated Tupapa Panthers 38-8 in round one and now leads the premier men’s competition with two wins.

In the other premier match, defending champions Panthers survived Arorangi Bears with a 36-12 win.

The Panthers led 16-0 at the break. The Bears fought back in the second half but the Darren Piri-coached Panthers proved too strong and held on to win their second match.
