Runners and walkers taking part in today’s Round Rarotonga Road Race gathered on Thursday night for the first event of the week of running – the 5km fun run.

This was held at the Edgewater Resort and Spa and was a good opportunity for runners to check out their competition.

The fun meet and greet event included a 5km run around the village of Arorangi before more socialising was held back at the Edgewater.

Today, by the time you have your morning coffee and read the newspaper – a good number of Round Raro Road Race runners would have crossed the finish line.

The race was scheduled to start at 5.30am today from the main road in front of the Punanga Nui market and finish at the back of the market.

The 10km run will begin from Muri at 7.30am and finish at the market.

So take your coffee out to the main road and cheer on the runners.

The week of running will continue with the Hash Birthday run on Monday at 5.30pm from the Edgwater Resort and Spa carpark followed by the Round the Rock Relay on Tuesday from the resort.

Wednesday will see the cross island run that will start from the Wigmore’s waterfalls and finishing at the Avatiu harbour.
