Two great golf tournaments held recently

The last two weeks have seen two popular tournaments at the Rarotonga Golf Club.

On March 27 the Air Raro Classic drew a field of 80 players all trying to win Air Raro tickets to the Southern Group.

Walter Tangata just finished ahead of Ianis Boaza and John Teiti to win 2 return tickets to anywhere in the Southern Group.

Walter finished with a +7 in this bogey competition and could have been further ahead if it were not for a triple bogey on the 6th hole.

Second prize of one return ticket went to Ianis Boaza on a count back from John Teiti, who both had a +6.

Henry Puna and Frank Berg followed close behind with +5 each and Henry R Henry (+4), Tere Taio (+3), Phil Urlich (+3), Kurai Foster (+2), Daniel Webb (+2), and Maara Kenning (+2) rounded out the prize winners.

Many thanks go to Air Raro for their generosity and also to Ewan Smith for his continued support and promotion of golf in the Cook Islands.

Over Easter, on Saturday and Monday, the Sava Easter Tournament attracted 92 players. There were pretty amazing scores in this stableford competition and it is obvious that practice is the key for some players.

On both days Mafini Teura tore the course apart on handicap, coming in with 48 points each day for a total of 96 points.

The Handicapper will treat her handicap with a very sharp axe, I think.

Ten points behind Mafini was Ruta Short, having her first game for a while, with 86 points.

Henry Puna was next on a count back from Leo Roa, both with 83, and Chris McGeown followed with 81 points.

Meitaki maata to Sava for yet another great tournament.

Your interest in the sport is always appreciated.

This Saturday is another favourite with the golfers.

It’s time for the Computer Man Tournament and there are some great prizes to be won.

The draw sheet for this tournament is now available so put your name down early if you want to make sure of your favourite time.
