Today’s triathlon will be held from the Avarua harbour due to a bereavement in Tikioki where the triathlon is normally held.

The change of scenery is sure to add a bit of spark to athletes today and with cold beers at Trader Jacks bar – race times are sure to improve too.

Two race courses are on offer for racers including a short 200m swim, 8km cycle and 2km run and a longer 400m swim, 16km cycle and 4km run course.

A couple of swim courses will be worked out in the harbour itself and for the confident swimmers, a swim around the iconic Boiler is an option.

The cycle leg will be out towards Matavera and back to the Avarua harbour and the run will be a nice jaunt along the waterfront towards the markets.

Today’s race is a great opportunity for local athletes to begin preparations for upcoming triathlon events.

The corporate triathlon race will be held on February 26 followed by the women’s triathlon on March 19.

So grab your gear and head to Trader Jacks for today’s triathlon race starting at 3pm.
