Sports enthusiast Rheima Bishop (centre) was sent diving head first into her rubbish bin after she received a phone call that she had won the Avatiu-Nikao Mongoose Golden Oldies 300 club raffle major prize.

Yesterday Rheima received the major prize of $2500 from Mongoose president George George (right) and the golden oldies rugby team’s tour manager Nia Heather.

But it could have gone all wrong for Rheima.

On Thursday, tired and hungry, the irritated youngster decided that she wasn’t going to be the winner of the Mongoose raffle so she tore her ticket up into tiny little pieces and chucked it in the bin.

But when Heather called to let her know the great news – she just couldn’t believe her luck until she realised what she had done with her ticket.

So into the rubbish bin she went and with the help of her trustee cellotape – she pieced her lucky ticket back together to redeem her cash prize with a huge smile on her face.

The Mongoose would like to thank everyone that helped with buying and selling the tickets to raise funds for the teams up and coming tour to the golden oldies rugby festival in Sydney later this year.
