Junior tennis in the Cook Islands, sponsored by the ANZ bank, has been given an extra boost thanks to the generosity of two tennis mothers from America.

Two American women, who are regular visitors to Rarotonga and wish to remain anonymous, noticed the increase in young children playing at the Nikao tennis centre and decided to help with funding.

The pair are from the North County Tennis Patrons group in California that promotes aid to young tennis players.

Prizes supplied by the group have gone to tennis players that have been competing in the ANZ play and stay tennis tournament.

This tournament which ran during the recent school holidays was won by Elijah Amataiti in the under 9 division with Eva Patai taking second place.

Ngametua Arama was the champion in the under 10 division.

This term’s tennis programme has already begun and if you’d like your kids to get involved – contact tennis coach Malcolm Kajer on 75614.
