Teams stage weekend battle royales

Wednesday 27 July 2011 | Published in Regional

The Rarotonga club rugby season heads into week seven this coming weekend and teams are now starting to feel the pressure as the business end of the season draws near.

At the weekend some great battles were seen, especially at the main match of the week between the Avatiu Eels and bitter rivals the Arorangi Bears.

Despite being the more threatening team in the first half and going into the break 20-0 , the Cowboys were unable to maintain their lead as the Eels mounted a fierce comeback to beat the Cowboys 29-25.

At Victoria Park the Tupapa Panthers were unstoppable as they steam rolled over the Titikaveka Bulls 32-16.

The Ngatangiia-Matavera Dragons, one of the seasons biggest improvers, demolished the Takuvaine Reds 43-21.

This weekend, the Cowboys will host the Bulls in Arorangi and the Eels will host the Dragons at the Swamp.

The Tupapa Panthers will head to the Happy Valley to play the Reds.
