Sprints take a break for corporate day

With oe vaka clubs still recruiting new members, low numbers were seen at Muri last Saturday for round two of the oe vaka sprint series.

However, junior paddler numbers are growing with new faces turning out for the day’s sprints.

The day was hosted by Ngakau Toa Vaka club who took the opportunity to give their novice and junior paddlers a go in the senior races.

The sprint series will take a break this weekend as the Cook Islands Canoeing Association hosts it annual corporate oe vaka raceday in Muri.

The finals of the sprint series will be held on April 10 when many category races will go straight to the finals.

Results from the 10 sprint races on Saturday are still being collated.

Meanwhile the local oe vaka clubs welcome any new paddlers – even if you’ve never picked up a paddle, to come and join their oe vaka family.
