Rutaki School pupils are proving their skills in the water following a swimming education programme run as part of the physical education curriculum.

Instructor Augustine Kopa taught pupils at the school how to swim during the last three weeks of 2010’s school year as well as the first five weeks of this year’s first term.

Last Monday Tui Mataiapo Teiri Teapa presented the children with certificates for their achievements with swimming.

Overall 37 students received certificates.

Those identified as being the most outstanding swimmers were Leeym Smith, Eleanor Wichman and Jonah Kitai who each gained the level four swimming grade.

Top swimming pupils also received a term of free swimming lessons with Kopa.
