Rucks and mauls avoided

Takitumu hosted the golden oldies rugby last Friday.

With the hard Ngatangiia field, both teams preferred passing the ball around rather than engage in rucks and mauls.

Player-coach Lucky continued to drum into the Touring Team the need for consistency and to stick to the basics.

Referees Arthur and Simi allowed the game to flow by warning players in advance when they are close to transgressing.

It resulted in a fast flowing game that was enjoyed by spectators, including the visiting Manukau Rovers golden oldies.

Stand-out players for the Home Roosters were Titikaveka Moe and butcher Puna and for the Touring Team, master-mind Macquarie and ‘out-of-my-way’ Anau.

A big meitaki maata goes to ‘run-off’ Steve, butcher Puna, Capt. Tama and helpers, for the delicious after-match umukai.

The last hit-out for the Touring Team before departing for the Golden Oldies Rugby Tourney in Sydney, will be on Friday at 4.30pm at Tupapa.

What a photo opportunity for those wishing to see the Touring Team play for the first time in their new strip.

As for the Home Roosters, you just have to wear the old Tupapa colours.
